About the app

Travel Planner was built to clarify the first steps of a trip.

It started as a thesis project, but the idea was practical from the start: to prevent initial planning from becoming a mess of tabs, notes, and rough links.

What it tries to do.

Travel Planner combines available data, community experiences, and AI support to provide an initial plan. Not the "perfect" answer, but a useful starting point that you can check and adjust yourself.

Where it is useful:

  • set up an initial itinerary without starting from a blank page.
  • combine duration, budget, and travel pace.
  • utilize community contributions for more authentic stops.
  • organize ideas more quickly that would otherwise be scattered across tabs and notes.

The role of the travel planner here.

The travel planner organizes preferences, constraints, and scattered ideas into something clearer. It is not presented as absolute truth and does not replace checking schedules, availability, or bookings.

Simply put, it helps with the start and organization. The final decision always remains with the traveler.

What we want to keep.

  • Reduce time wasted on searching.
  • Make room for real local recommendations rather than just generic lists.
  • Use artificial intelligence as an organizational tool, not a substitute for judgment.
  • Remain useful even when information needs verification.

How it actually works.

Four things worth knowing before you rely on what the app produces.

How is a plan put together?

A Google language model, Gemini, takes what you tell it — destination, duration, budget, pace — and organises it into a draft itinerary. It does not search the web as it writes; it composes from what it already learned. So opening hours, prices and availability always need confirming against the official source before you book anything.

Where do the destination suggestions come from?

From three places: the app’s own destination catalogue, the model itself when you ask for something outside that catalogue, and contributions from the community. The "similar destinations" on each page are not picked by hand — they are computed automatically from how close the descriptions and attributes are.

What gets stored from what I do here?

Your account, the plans you create, your preferences, and anything you publish to the community. Personalisation cookies are optional and are switched on only if you choose them.

What we keep, and for how long

How does the community work?

A plan or contribution you submit does not appear straight away: it goes into review and is published only once approved — that is also when the points are awarded. From then on others can see it in the public feed, mark it as helpful and comment on it.

More direct description.

If we had to put it very simply, it's a tool that tries to gather initial research into a cleaner spot. Fewer scattered tabs. More context to make a decision.
