The historic Monastery of Agia Lavra, built in 961 AD, is known as the place where the banner of the Greek Revolution was raised in 1821. It houses precious relics, such as the banner of the fighters' oath and the vestments of Germanos of Old Patras.
The Holy Monastery of Mega Spileo, the oldest monastery in Greece, is literally clinging to a huge cave of Helmos, 10 km from Kalavryta. Inside, the relief icon of Panagia Megalospileotissa, a work of Luke the Evangelist, is kept.
The Museum is housed in the historic Municipal School of Kalavryta and presents the tragic history of the 1943 Holocaust by Nazi troops. The Sacrifice Site, on a hill outside the town, is a sacred memorial point for the executed men.
The Cave of the Lakes, near the village of Kastria, is a globally unique geological phenomenon, with 13 successive tiered lakes on three floors. The visit offers an impressive experience inside labyrinthine corridors and galleries with stalactites.
